ABOUTCATALUNYA.com is a forum for the creation and development of varied projects intended to disseminate Catalan language and culture to a diverse audience both within and outside of the region of Catalunya, Spain. Projects currently under development include:

  • Creation of an illustrated cookbook, The Catalan Table, by an award-winning New York art director and packager, and an award-winning food photographer, celebrating and promoting classic Catalan cuisine and the food producers of the region, produced initially in an English-language edition, with subsequent editions to follow in additional languages: Castilian (for Latin American markets), German, French, and Italian.
  • Development of a concert program for voice and piano featuring the works of renowned Catalan composers who have made a significant impact on the classical music of the twentieth century, as a means of acquainting audiences with the wealth of important classical song originating in the region, and presented in conjunction with a special symposium on Contemporary Trends in Catalan Music, to be held in New York.
  • Creation of a book, Why Catalan?, a guide for newcomers to Catalunya in how to navigate the intricacies of living and communicating in this bilingual culture, as well as a vehicle for examining the complex issues which accompany this subject, written by an American who lived in Barcelona for eight years and became a fluent Catalan speaker. The book draws in part on his experiences during his time there in attempting to energetically embrace the language and culture of his adopted home.

Taken together, these projects offer several unique viewpoints from which to be exposed to and explore the cultural wealth of Catalunya.
